The car is equipped with a three-phase alternator with electromagnetic excitation, a diode rectifier unit and a built-in voltage regulator.
The generator is driven by a V-ribbed belt from the crankshaft pulley. The generator is attached to the engine on the bracket motionlessly, while the belt does not have a tensioner. The belt tension is set by its length, and the distance between the crankshaft pulleys and the generator does not change. As a result, during the operation of the car, belt tension adjustment is not required. Install it using a special tool. This design has long been used by many automakers. In this case, the belts in spare parts are supplied with a set of devices for their installation.
On some cars, a tensioner with a roller can be installed, which allows you to adjust the tension of the alternator drive belt. This drive design was used on a car Lada Kalina.
The stator and generator covers are tightened with four bolts. The stator has a three-phase winding connected «star». The winding leads are fixed in plastic holders (with spring-loaded contacts) rectifier block.
The rotor has an excitation winding, the leads of which are soldered to two contact rings. The generator rotor shaft is mounted on two ball bearings. The front bearing is rolled in the lists of the generator cover, and the rear bearing is pressed onto the rotor shaft and pressed by the rear cover of the generator.
On the outside of the back cover of the generator (under a plastic cover) a rectifier unit and a voltage regulator with a brush assembly are installed.
The rectifier unit is assembled on six diodes connected by two aluminum horseshoe-shaped plates.
The voltage regulator is non-contact, electronic, assembled in a single unit with a brush assembly.
