The gear lever should turn freely, without jamming, in the ball joint. Otherwise check and if necessary replace a clip of the spherical joint.
To replace the axle bushings and repair the ball joint of the gear lever on a car, you will need: keys «at 13» (two), screwdriver, circlip pliers or round nose pliers.
1. Using a screwdriver, remove the shift lever cover from the floor tunnel cover flare and, turning it inside out, move the cover up the lever.
2. Turn away a nut of an axis of the lever of a gear change, keeping an axis from turning by the second key.
3. Take an axis from apertures of the lever of a gear change and draft of management of a transmission, remove plugs of an axis of the gear lever and their plastic damping washers. Inspect bushings and washers. If the bushings on the collars that fit into the shift lever hole show signs of wear and the damping washers are badly worn or damaged, replace the bushings and washers.
4. Disconnect the reverse gear lock solenoid switch harness connector.
5. Squeezing with round nose pliers (or puller), remove the ball joint retaining ring...
6.... and remove the gearshift lever from the ball joint.
7. Remove the plastic clip of the ball joint from the rubberized ball head of the gear lever (it is installed with little tension). If the support has play when installed on the gear lever head and is easily removed, replace the support.
Note. If there is damage to the rubber array of the ball head of the gear lever, replace the gear lever on the Lada Kalina car, since the head rubber pad is not removable.
8. Assemble and install the gearshift lever on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal. Before installation, lubricate the ball joint holder and damping washers of the gear lever axle bushings with Litol-24 or LSTs-5 grease.
