It includes:
- seat belt pretensioners,
- belt tension limiters
- driver and front passenger airbags.
In the event of a frontal impact, these devices can work both separately from each other and simultaneously.
Depending on the strength of the impact, there are three options for triggering:
- protection is provided only by seat belts;
- the pretensioner is activated, eliminating the gap between the torso and the seat belt;
- in the event of a very severe impact, the airbag and belt force limiter are additionally triggered.
Seat belt pretensioners
When the ignition is on, in case of a strong frontal impact of the car, the piston instantly retracts the seat belt buckle, while the belt is pressed against the body with force and the protection efficiency is increased.
- After a traffic accident, check the entire passive safety system.
- Any work with the security system (airbag, electronic components, electrical wiring) or its use on another vehicle, even of the same model, is expressly prohibited.
- To avoid spontaneous operation and possible injury, all work on the passive restraint system for the driver and front passenger must be carried out only by qualified personnel of the manufacturer's service station.
- Electrical testing of the pretensioner igniter should only be performed by qualified personnel with the necessary equipment.
- When scrapping your vehicle, contact the manufacturer's workshop to have the pyrotechnic gas generators of the seat belt pretensioners and airbags removed.
The airbag is activated by a pyrotechnic system, which explains the popping sound, as well as the release of heat and smoke when it is deployed (which does not mean the start of a fire). When an airbag deploys, a person may suffer skin damage or other injuries.
Driver and front passenger airbags
The driver's and front passenger's seats can be equipped with these airbags.
inscriptions «Airbag» on the steering wheel and on the instrument panel, and a corresponding sticker on the bottom of the windshield or on the sun visor, indicate that this equipment is installed on the vehicle.
Seat belt force limiter
This device is activated at a certain impact force to limit the force of the belt pressure on the torso.
Each airbag system includes:
- airbag and gas generator mounted in the center panel of the steering wheel (for the driver) or in the dashboard (for front passenger);
- a common electronic unit consisting of a shock sensor and an electrical system for switching on the gas generator igniter;
- warning light located on the instrument panel.
Operating principle
The system only works when the ignition is on.
In the event of a severe frontal airbag impact) fills up quickly (-yetsya) gas, thus weakening the impact of the head and chest of the driver on the steering wheel and the head and chest of the front passenger on the dashboard; pillow after impact (-And) deflates immediately (-yetsya), which allows you to leave the car freely.
For the passenger airbag system, there is an additional airbag deactivation warning light on the instrument panel. This lamp is connected to the passenger airbag deactivation system.
The warning light comes on to indicate that the passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of a vehicle impact.
Faults
When the ignition is switched on, signal lamp 1, located on the instrument panel, lights up for a few seconds.
If the warning light does not come on when the ignition is switched on, or if it comes on while the engine is running, this indicates a malfunction in the airbag system.
In this case, DO NOT install the child seat on the front passenger seat in the «against the direction of travel».
It is not recommended to put a passenger in this seat.
In these two cases, immediately contact the manufacturer's service station.
The airbag is fired by a pyrotechnic system, which explains the popping sound, as well as the release of heat and smoke when it is deployed (which is not a sign of a fire). When the airbag deploys immediately, a person may suffer skin damage or other minor injuries.
Driver Airbag Warnings
- Do not modify the design of the steering wheel and its hub.
- Do not cover the steering wheel hub.
- Do not attach any foreign objects to the center panel of the steering wheel (badges, logos, watches, phone holders, etc.).
- Do not remove the steering wheel yourself (this operation must be carried out by qualified personnel of the manufacturer's service station).
- When driving, do not sit too close to the steering wheel: with a correct posture, the arms lying on the steering wheel are slightly bent at the elbows. This will provide enough space for the airbag to deploy and function properly.
Front Passenger Airbag Warnings:
- Do not attach or stick any foreign objects to the dashboard at the location of the airbag (badges, logos, watches, phone holders, etc.).
- There must be no objects between the front passenger and the dashboard (umbrellas, walking sticks, bags, etc.) and animals.
- Do not place your feet on the dashboard or on the seat as this may cause serious injury. The passenger is advised to constantly ensure that all parts of his body (knees, hands, head, etc.) located at a sufficient distance from the dashboard.
- After removing the child seat from the passenger seat, the airbags must be reactivated to protect the passenger in the event of an impact.
Warning! A rearward facing child seat must not be installed on the front passenger seat unless the front passenger restraint system has been deactivated.
The following warnings tell you how to ensure that the airbag deploys smoothly and thereby avoids serious injury when it deploys.
Side airbags
Side airbags are installed in the front seats and deploy in the event of a very severe side impact of the vehicle, protecting the driver and front passenger from the door side.
Side airbag warnings:
Installing covers: Seats equipped with airbags require special covers. For information about the availability of such covers on sale, contact the representative of the manufacturer. Using other cases (or covers designed for another car) may interfere with the correct operation of the airbags and adversely affect your safety.
Do not place any accessories, objects, or pets between the seatback, door, and trim. Do not place objects or clothing on the seatback. This may prevent the correct operation of the airbag or cause injury if it deploys.
Any disassembly or any modification of the seat and trim elements is prohibited, except for this work by qualified personnel of the manufacturer's service station.
The following warnings tell you how to ensure that the airbag deploys smoothly and thereby avoids serious injury when it deploys.
The airbag complements the action of the seat belt, they are elements of a single security system. Always wear seat belts; failure to use seat belts can lead to serious injury in a crash and may increase the risk of minor skin injuries when an airbag deploys.
Airbags do not always deploy in the event of a rollover or rear impact (even strong).
An impact to the underside of the vehicle, such as a curb, pit, stone, etc., may cause these systems to operate.
Any intervention or modification to the design of the driver's or passenger's airbag system (pillows themselves, pretensioners, electronic unit, electrical wiring, etc.) strictly prohibited (with the exception of repairs carried out by qualified personnel of the manufacturer's service station).
To ensure normal operation and prevent accidental deployment, work on airbags should only be carried out by qualified personnel from the manufacturer's service station.
For your safety, you should check your vehicle's airbag system after an accident, theft, or attempted theft.
When selling or loaning the vehicle, inform the new owner of all of the above conditions regarding airbags, and also hand over this manual to the new owner.
When scrapping your vehicle, contact the manufacturer's representative to carry out the procedure for the destruction of the gas generator (-ov) airbags.
