Preparation for adjustment
Put the car on a two-post lift, apply the parking brake, turn off the ignition and disconnect the wire terminal "masses" from the battery.
Remove the air filter housing.
Remove cylinder head cover.
Remove the right front wheel.
Remove the right side mudguard.
Remove the accessory drive belt.
Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Remove the right engine mount.
Unscrew the hole plug for the TDC lock (interchangeable head Torx El4, extension, ratchet wrench).
Figure 10-1 - Removing the plug of the hole for the TDC lock: 1 - hole plug for the TDC retainer
Remove the top timing cover.
Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt with spacer (interchangeable head 18, knob).
Rotate the crankshaft clockwise so that the mark on the camshaft sprocket is one tooth away from the vertical axis of the toothed pulley and the mark on the crankshaft sprocket is one tooth away from the vertical axis of the pulley (interchangeable head 18, knob).
Install TDC lock (TDC lock Mot. 1489 or 67.7820-9701L).
Turn the crankshaft clockwise until it stops against the lock so that it is in the crankshaft locking groove (interchangeable head 18, knob).
Make sure that the timing mark 1, Figure 10-2, on the camshaft sprocket is aligned with the mark on the cylinder head cover, and the mark 2 on the crankshaft sprocket is aligned with the mark on the cylinder block.

Remove TDC retainer (TDC lock Mot. 1489 or 67.7820-9701L).
Adjustment values
Inlet valves: 0.10-0.15 mm.
Exhaust valves: 0.25-0.30mm (no valve replacement). Exhaust valves: 0.20-0.25mm (with valve replacement). Locknut tightening torque 9 Nm (0.9 kgf·m).
Adjustment
Method "full opening of the exhaust valve"
Attention. The cylinders are counted from the flywheel.
Figure 10-3 - The procedure for adjusting the gaps in the timing drive mechanism: 1...4 - serial number of the engine cylinder; A, B, C - stages of adjusting the timing drive mechanism.
Adjust the gaps in the timing drive mechanism in the order shown in Figure 10-3 (wrench 10, pliers).
- A - Set the exhaust valve of cylinder 1 to the fully open position.
- B - Check the intake valve clearance of cylinder 3.
- C - Check the clearance of the exhaust valve of cylinder 4.
Repeat the adjustment operations for the other cylinders in the order shown in Figure 10-3.
After adjusting the valves, tighten the locknuts to 9 Nm (0.9 kgf·m) (interchangeable head 10, torque wrench).
Completion of adjustment
Apply sealant to the threads of plug 1, Figure 10-1, holes for the TDC retainer and tighten the plug. Plug tightening torque 20 Nm (2.0 kgf·m) (interchangeable head Torx E14, extension, ratchet wrench, torque wrench).
Install the upper timing cover.
Install the lower timing cover.
Install the right engine mount.
Install the crankshaft pulley.
Install the accessory drive belt.
Install the right side mudguard.
Install the right front wheel.
Install the cylinder head cover.
Install the air filter housing.
Attach wire terminal "masses" to the battery.
