Note. Observing safety measures, carry out work on replacing the sensor on a cold engine or, in order not to burn your hands, use cloth gloves and long-sleeved clothing.
1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.
2. Partially drain the coolant from the radiator (see «Coolant replacement»).
3. For ease of operation, remove the air filter (see «Removal and installation of the air filter»).
4. Squeeze the pad..
5.... and disconnect it with a wire from the sensor output (ECM coolant temperature sensor and water pipe removed for clarity).
6. Loosen the sensor…
7.... and turn it out of the water channel of the cylinder block.
Note. This is what the coolant temperature sensor looks like. Pay attention to the markings on the sensor body in order to purchase a sensor with the same parameters.
8. To check, connect the tester in ohmmeter mode to the output and sensor housing. The sensor resistance at room temperature should be 1.5-1.7 kΩ.
9. To measure the resistance at the sensor terminals at different temperature conditions, lower the sensor into hot water and follow the change in its resistance as the water cools: it should increase. If the sensor does not respond to temperature changes, then it must be replaced.
10. Install the new sensor in the reverse order of removal.
