The fuel filter is installed from below in a bracket attached to the fuel tank, so it is more convenient to work on a vehicle mounted on a lift or inspection ditch.
You will need a key «on 10».
1. Reduce the pressure in the fuel supply system (see «Reduced fuel pressure in the engine power system»).
2. Having pressed the spring latch..
3.... disconnect the tip of the fuel pipe from the fuel filter fitting on one side..
4.... and, squeezing the plastic clips on both sides..
5.... disconnect the tip of the second fuel pipe from the second fitting of the fuel filter on the other side.
Attention! Place a container under the tips to catch the escaping gasoline.
6. Check up a condition of sealing rings in tips of tubes. Replace torn or loose rings.
Note. O-rings are located deep in the tips. In addition, the tips are made of rather fragile plastic, so sometimes when you try to remove the o-rings, they break. Therefore, we recommend that if the sealing rings are leaking, replace the tubes as an assembly with tips.
7. Loosen the fuel filter mounting bracket pinch bolt…
8.... and remove the filter from the bracket.
Note. Get a new filter exactly the same as the old one (pay attention to the label), since there are filters on sale with various designs of fittings for connecting hoses.
9. Install a new fuel filter in the reverse order of removal, so that the arrow on its housing points in the direction of fuel flow. Connect the ends of the fuel hoses to the filter by moving along the fittings until the spring clips snap into place.
Attention! After installing the fuel filter, be sure to check with the engine running for gasoline leaks in the connections of the fuel filter to the fuel pipes and, if necessary, repeat the operation of connecting the pipes until they are securely fixed. If after this the leaks from the connections are not eliminated, replace the sealing rubber rings of the tips of the fuel pipes. It should be noted that the tips of the tubes are rather fragile and sometimes break when trying to remove the sealing rings from them. Therefore, we recommend that you replace the hose assemblies to eliminate fuel leaks.
