Damaged sections of the filaments of the heating element can be determined visually...
...or with a multimeter in ohmmeter mode.
To do this, it is necessary to sequentially check the resistance of all threads of the heating element.
To perform the work, you will need a special kit for repairing a heating element with a special composition, and a glass cleaner (see «Operational and repair materials»).
Execution sequence
1. Turn off the rear window heater.
2. Clean the area around the damage with a regular glass cleaner (see «Tools, fixtures and operating materials»), With a clean soft cloth moistened with a solvent, degrease the glass at the site of damage to the heater filament.
3. Carefully separate the protective layer from the adhesive base of the applicator.
4. Stick the applicator over the damaged area.
Comment. Instead of an applicator, you can use masking tape. To do this, cut off two strips of masking tape 5-6 mm longer than the damaged area. Parallel to the damaged thread above and below it, we glue strips of livestock at a distance of 7 mm from each other so that the damaged area is located between them in the center.
5. Thoroughly shake the bottle with the repair compound until a homogeneous mass is formed.
6. Using the brush included in the kit, apply the repair compound to the damaged area in three layers with a break of about a minute. We distribute the composition so that it enters the undamaged parts of the thread 5 mm from the place of the break, and the main thickness of the composition is located above the break and is not thinner than the applicator.
7. After waiting at least 20 minutes, peel off the applicator.
8. Visually make sure that the repair compound completely covers the damaged section of the heater thread.
Warning! Turn on the heater not earlier than a day after the repair.
9. After waiting 24 hours, turn on the rear window heater and make sure that the repaired thread is working. If necessary, carefully scrape off the remnants of the repair composition from the glass and repeat the repair.
