Check of a technical condition of system of release of the fulfilled gases

During the operation of the car, the elements of the exhaust system are exposed to high temperatures, exhaust gases, water, snow and reagents that are poured over the road in winter, as well as vibration. Therefore, as a rule, individual elements of the exhaust system serve on a car for no more than five years. The partitions in the muffler burn out, through corrosion appears in the walls, the tightness of the connection of the elements of the exhaust system is broken. Such malfunctions lead to an increase in the noise level of the exhaust of a running engine.

To perform the work, an inspection ditch or overpass is required.

Execution sequence

1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).

2. We inspect the suspension cushions of the main and additional mufflers.

Recommendation. Cushions that are cracked, torn or otherwise damaged should be replaced.

3. Violation of the tightness of the exhaust gas system is determined by traces of soot or places of gas breakthrough.

Recommendation. You can try to eliminate the breakthrough of gases through flange connections by tightening the fasteners. The tightness of the connection between the exhaust pipe of the muffler and the catalytic converter can be restored by replacing the gasket. Faulty elements of the system, damaged by through corrosion, must be replaced. Restoration of elements of the exhaust system by welding gives only a short-term effect.
